The Day They Arrived
site-specific intervention (exhibition at the Galerie du Dourven, France, 2015)

Blue ribbons are wrapped around the many pine trees surrounding the exhibition space. Each ribbon bears a foreign first name. From a veranda, visitors can look out at the sea through the trees while listening to two texts. They evoke a utopian time when migrants will be welcome. Confidences from a border policeman escape from the window of a former guardhouse. At the end of the exhibition, a video recounts the story of each of the four hundred people whose names appear on the blue ribbons and who died trying to reach Europe.
